2008 bloggies awards

http://2008.bloggies.com/

The bloggies 2008 want your nominations for 2008, and there are certainly enough categories available for nominating your favourite blogs including best new weblog, best kept secret weblog and best weblog of all.

Among my favourites are Dr Rant, Dr Grumble and Dr Crippen; it's a great shame that Dr C has been out of action for so long but you cannot question his amazing output, I really miss it and hope to see him back soonish.

Please nominate your favourite bloggers and try to put some medical ones on the map at the Bloggies this year. Medical blogging has come on leaps and bounds in my opinion in the last couple of years, and it would be good if this progress continue to be built upon.

For some reason Dr Grumble's blog is no longer open to me - shame really, so I can't comment on his recent output. Perhaps if he reads this he might alter the policy of invited readers only!

Indeed. I can't access it either, a shame.

Dr Grumble,
If you are reading this please can you at least explain why you have cut us all out? I'm new to blogging and really appreciated reading and learning from your blog.

Dr Grumble said...

It's not really that I have cut you out it is just that I wanted to bring the blog to an end and I couldn't bring myself to actually delete it. The only person who can read it now is me.

My problem was that I was very careless when I started the blog and from the very first post people who know both me and Mrs Grumble recognised us. I went on making mistakes to the extent that people that I have never met could identify me. As the blog appeared to gain in importance the loss of my anonymity mattered more. If nobody had read Dr Grumble it wouldn't have mattered.

I have a few particular concerns about what I have posted in the context of my identity becoming more widely known and that was the main reason why I decided to pull the plug. There are workplace bloggers who have got into trouble and I have decided that I need to pull out.

Dear Dr Grumble,
Thank you for the explanation and now I understand. I, along with many others, will miss your wisdom. I wish you well and hope that the fact that you have posted the truth doesn't cause you any problems in the future.
Best wishes
Levans

I am glad you understand and pleased if Dr Grumble had a useful function.

Thank you all for your kind comments.

The sad departure of Dr Grumble will make the fight against the lunacies of the DoH more difficult, especially with the seeming loss of Crippo too.

More power to your elbow then Garth! Exposing the wastrels and their sycophants is a noble job! I trust you will keep the faith!

Dr Grumble,
Yours was one of the most enjoyable blogs on the net and I'll miss it loads. I understand you reasons for stopping, though may I ask: if anonymity is your big concern, could you not start over again, with a different pseudonym and leave all the personal stuff out?

Or maybe you've done this already?

Either way, all the best for the future Dr G.

- Michael

I am sorry to see Dr G has had to shut his blog down. I have been careless about my identity too and made a few enemies. I think the same applies to you too Garth.
It doesn't look good for medical blogging. Even Dr Rant seems to have lost its edge recently.

Maybe its time we all swapped names and carried on.

I appreciate the kind comments.

We are all new to blogging. Inevitably we have made mistakes. In my view the NHS cannot take constructive criticism (because it sees criticism as not being constructive). If you intend to criticise the first priority is to keep your identity secret. Without anonymity your comments and thoughts are stifled by concerns about what the averse consequences of your free thinking might be. Stifling honestly held opinion is not a healthy thing to do.

Yes -- but sorry you had to stop.

BTW I just found out Dr Crippen is back.
